Materials maker Covestro has selected a new chief commercial officer to fill the last vacant seat on its board. The supervisory board unanimously approved Sucheta Govil, 55, for the post at a meeting on Tuesday. She will succeed Dr. Markus Steilemann as Chief Commercial Officer on August 1, 2019. Dr. Sloman is currently serving as Chief Commercial Officer in addition to his role as Chief Executive Officer. Govil will be responsible for the three business segments Polyurethanes, Polycarbonates and Coatings, Adhesives and Specialty Chemicals. In addition, as a member of the board of directors, she will be responsible for the newly established central marketing department and the operation of the innovation management and business services and supply chain centers in the three major regions.

Sucheta Govil was born in India in September 1963. From 1 October 2018 to present, she is a non-executive director of Eurocell plc, a leading building products supplier based in London. Before that, she held market leadership positions at life science and materials science companies DSM (Netherlands) and AkzoNobel Decorative Paints (UK). Among other roles, she served as PepsiCo’s vice president of market innovation, commercial and marketing in Asia, Middle East and Africa, and GlaxoSmithKline’s global nutrition category general manager in India and the UK. Sucheta Govil holds a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata, and a Bachelor’s Diploma in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi.
