A few days ago, Huntsman announced the commissioning of a new polyurethane systems house in Dubai. Located in the Jebel Ali Free Trade Zone, the new facility will strengthen Huntsman's downstream capabilities in the MENA region, increasing its ability to produce polyurethane compounds and polyester polyols for customers in the region.

The new compounding plant includes a production area equipped with state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment, as well as mixers, reactors, filling stations, control rooms, offices and quality control laboratories. The plant will produce polyurethane foam for construction, insulation, appliances, bedding and furniture. It will also produce compounds for the footwear industry, as well as prepolymers for coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers.

The plant will also serve as a regional production base for Huntsman's spray polyurethane foam (SPF) business, Demilec. Danmilek is the world's leading manufacturer of SPF insulation materials; SPF insulation materials are used in commercial buildings and residential buildings to improve building energy efficiency. The new composite material factory has also built a special spray foam application and training center, which will provide local technical and training support for customers in the region with the full support of the global Danmirak organization.

Tony Hankins, President of Huntsman Polyurethanes Division, said: "This investment is the latest step we have taken to expand our global compounding capacity and will support our downstream growth strategy. Through the Jebel Ali The construction of a new composite plant in a free trade zone will allow us to be closer to our customers and provide us with all the resources we need to expand our business in the MENA region, including competitive production, a well-developed infrastructure network and quick response to customers capabilities."

Steen Weien Hansen, vice president responsible for EMEA, further stated: "The UAE's population is growing rapidly, with an urbanization rate of 90%, and it is a major market for building and construction projects as well as consumer goods. A major importer of polyurethane for production. Only one year away from the long-awaited Expo 2020 Dubai, the booming construction industry will increase imports of polyurethane, which will directly drive the growth of Huntsman’s business in the UAE.”

Huntsman's other downstream businesses in the Middle East include Huntsman EMA, a combined material plant in Turkey, and Huntsman Arab Polyols in Saudi Arabia, which is a joint venture between Huntsman and BCI Group, Huntsman Mai is the major shareholder.
