Hydrolysis-resistant PBT materials meet growing market demand
BASF has further developed its range of hydrolysis-resistant (HR) thermoplastic polyesters to meet the growing demand for components in fast-growing new energy vehicles and autonomous driving systems.
The expanded Ultradur HR range includes: Ultradur B4330 G6 HR High Speed, a high flow, laser markable grade with 30% glass fiber reinforcement; Ultradur B4330 G10 HR, a highly reinforced grade with 50% glass fiber; Ultradur B4331 G6 HR, the next generation product with better processing performance.
HR grades have significantly improved resistance to alkaline media which can induce stress corrosion cracking. The same is true for the new Ultradur B4331 G6 HR grade, with significantly improved melt stability and flow.
In tests, Ultradur B4331 G6 HR did not increase in viscosity even when kept at elevated temperatures for extended periods of time. The material can also be colored orange (RAL 2003) for the production of high-voltage plug connectors for new energy vehicles.
Due to the exceptionally high tracking resistance of PBT, the plug connector can be designed to be smaller, but still able to withstand the higher voltage in new energy vehicles. Therefore, the cost can be reduced and the component weight can be reduced.
