Recently, a reporter from Tiantian Chemical Industry Network had the honor to interview Ms. Ekin Tükek, General Manager of Flokser Chemical Company, had a detailed exchange on Flokser Chemical Company’s polyurethane business development status, innovation and sustainable development achievements, the future development plan of the polyurethane industry, and the vision of China-Turkey polyurethane trade cooperation.

Reporter from Tiantian Chemical Industry Network: Can you briefly introduce Flokser Kimya company? What products and services does the company provide for the polyurethane industry?
Ms. Ekin Tükek:We are a family business established in Istanbul in 1984, focusing on the supply of polyurethane raw materials for the Turkish domestic market and neighboring countries. Since the day the company was established, we have met the needs of polyurethane raw materials in many industries with various product series. Our products are exported to 55 countries, including countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East as well as Russia and so on. Our products are used in several fields such as polyurethane footwear and footwear products, building insulation, heating/coolers, automotive, furniture and defense industries. We are Turkey’s leading polyurethane, polyurea and polyester producer, able to meet globally recognized production standards.
Reporter from Tiantian Chemical Industry Network: The COVID-19 pandemic has dealt a severe blow to the global economy. What challenges did the company face during the pandemic? How is the company responding to the crisis?
Ms Ekin Tükek: During a Pandemic , supply chain issues, rising raw material prices and disruptions to transportation have negatively impacted the global economy. Although the epidemic has posed great challenges to us, we have still adapted to this global change in a short period of time. Our company was one of the first companies in Turkey to respond to the outbreak. Since the beginning of the epidemic, we have adopted the working mode of working from home and implementing a flexible working system. Together with the company’s doctors and psychological counselors, we provide employees with training on the prevention and treatment of new coronavirus infection and psychological counseling. At the same time, we accelerated digital transformation and migrated various conferences to online platforms. We adjusted our working hours and tried to maintain the company’s production and operation with the least amount of manpower. We are also developing priority work plans with suppliers to ensure that the supply chain is not disrupted. We successfully achieved our annual performance goals by strengthening coordination with customers and suppliers and revising monthly budgets. We not only protect the safety and health of employees, but also maintain the normal production and operation of the company.
Reporter from Tiantian Chemical Industry Network: The polyurethane industry is paying more and more attention to sustainable development. What efforts has the company made in promoting sustainable development?
Ms. Ekin Tükek: Our commitment helps To promote the social responsibility of sustainable development and implement related recycling projects. In the course of our company’s business operations, we are responsible for the world, the country, the company, employees, customers and suppliers, ensuring business continuity, sustainable and transparent operations, and striving to benefit the whole society. Therefore, we consider all industries, including the chemical industry, when making business decisions.
In addition to implementing plans to achieve production and management In addition to the “zero waste” in our products, we are also committed to remanufacturing recycled waste into fillers or additives, and using chemical methods to convert recycled waste into raw materials. We strive to develop environmentally friendly, non-destructiveNatural and high value-added products to help solve waste management issues and create a sustainable future. In this regard, we are becoming a model for the industry. At the same time, we have set up a sustainable development department within the company and formulated an overall plan for sustainable development. We also incorporate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into the company’s overall strategic goals.

Reporter from Tiantian Chemical Industry Network: What is your opinion on the development trend of polyurethane industry? Does Flokser have any plans for 2023, especially for Chinese suppliers?
Ms. Ekin Tükek: In the future, energy saving and environmental protection The products will become the mainstream of the polyurethane industry. In the automotive and appliance industries, where polyurethanes are heavily used, we see further increases in polyurethane consumption in 2023 and beyond, while manufacturers increasingly use sustainable raw materials. We expect the company’s business to grow by more than 40% in 2023. China is one of our most important suppliers of raw materials. With the support of our Chinese suppliers, our growth strategy has been successfully implemented and R&D activities have been carried out smoothly. We believe that our cooperation will be further strengthened when shipping costs return to normal levels.
Reporter from Tiantian Chemical Industry Network: Research and development is crucial for companies in the polyurethane industry. Which innovations in the polyurethane industry do you think are very important? Will the company launch more competitive products?
Ms. Ekin Tükek:The chemical industry is a very wide-ranging industry that affects every aspect of life. Our products mainly include polyurethane, polyurea and polyester. These raw materials are used in various fields of application in numerous industries. Our products can be used in steering wheels or seats in cars, refrigerators, construction projects or shoes. Customers in every industry have their own requirements. For example, shoes require anti-allergic properties, but construction projects require good heat resistance. Therefore, the research and development department is an indispensable department of chemical enterprises. From the first day of the company’s establishment, we have attached great importance to research and development. We have the first government-approved R&D center in Turkey’s polyurethane industry. In addition, we are included in the list of “Top 10 chemical companies with the largest R&D investment in the chemical industry in Turkey” every year. Research and development activities have greatly contributed to the growth of the company.
Market competition is endless. Ms. Ekin Tükek: China is Turkey polyurethane The industry’s important raw material suppliers, the two countries have a long-term business relationship. Turkey has a huge domestic market and huge export potential to surrounding areas, so its strategic location is extremely important. The polyurethane market in Turkey is growing every year, and the polyurethane exhibitions held are attracting more and more attention. Therefore, Chinese suppliers should strengthen their relationship with Turkish customers, increase marketing activities targeting Turkish companies, and jointly carry out product research and development to gain a larger market share.
