According to the important production data monitoring system of the Ministry of Commerce, in August 2023, the average price of coal in Sichuan Province was 929.6 yuan/ton, a month-on-month decrease of 1%, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points larger than that in July; a year-on-year increase of 4%, an increase of 4%. It narrowed by 6.4 percentage points in July. Among them, the average price of anthracite coal was 880.8 yuan/ton, up 1.5% month-on-month and 9.1% year-on-year respectively; the average price of bituminous coal was 978.3 yuan/ton, down 3.1% month-on-month and 0.2% year-on-year. Overall, coal prices in the province showed a slow downward trend. On the one hand, with the end of the dog days, the temperature has gradually dropped, the load of some power plants has been reduced, and they have gradually entered the stage of destocking and maintenance; on the other hand, with the increase in imported coal and hydropower, the demand for thermal coal has been limited, and the terminals do not have a large amount of capacity for the time being. With the possibility of replenishment demand being released, coal demand continues to be weak. At the same time, as downstream terminal demand continues to be deserted, most traders are not optimistic about the market outlook, have a strong wait-and-see attitude, and are not very enthusiastic about taking the initiative to replenish inventories and ship shipments. The coal market in Sichuan Province shows a weak supply and demand pattern, and coal prices are expected to continue to fluctuate in the near future.
