● The new high-performance halogen-free flame retardant factory with a total investment of 100 million Swiss francs and a first-stage investment of 60 million Swiss francs was completed on time
● Will support the rapidly growing demand for innovative and sustainable fire protection from Chinese and Asian parts manufacturers in the fields of electric vehicles, electronics and electrical, transportation, 5G communications, infrastructure and home appliances
● Establish flame retardant production and local technical teams to be closer to customers and provide them with professional services and support
Clariant, a specialty chemicals company focused on sustainable development, today announced that its new advanced halogen-free flame retardant production base in Daya Bay, Huizhou has officially started production, marking another milestone in its China strategy.
The factory’s first production line, with an investment of 60 million Swiss francs, will provide local customers with innovative and sustainable Exolit
OP flame retardants and related expertise to support the significant growth in engineering plastics applications in electric vehicles and electronic and electrical sectors. The plant’s second production line is also under construction and is expected to be put into production in 2024, for which Clariant has invested a further 40 million Swiss francs.
Angela Ankewei, President of Clariant’s Adsorbents and Additives business unit and Europe, Middle East and Africa
Cackovich said: “With this world-class production facility, we strengthen our leadership and global supply capabilities in innovative and sustainable fire safety solutions. We rely on innovative platforms, equipment and systems to serve China and the entire Asia-Pacific region. Provide better services to customers and promote technological development in areas such as electric vehicles, infrastructure, 5G communications, energy transportation and other fields. Localized production means we can strengthen cooperation, tailor solutions according to customers’ development needs, and significantly Shorten lead times.”
The new facility will produce Clariant’s global range of patent-protected organophosphorus flame retardants and complement Clariant’s two Exolit sites in Knapsack, Germany.
The production capacity of the OP factory. The team at Clariant’s Integrated Campus in Shanghai will support customers in the joint development and application testing of flame retardant solutions.
An Kaiwei continued: “Brands and equipment manufacturers are turning to halogen-free flame retardants to meet the challenges of increasing safety, sustainability and technical performance requirements in electric vehicles and electronics. For engineering plastics, our Exolit
OP solutions can help meet application safety improvements and reliability needs to maintain mechanical, electrical and flame retardant performance throughout the product life cycle and after recycling. Importantly, customers also consider third-party verified environmental and health attributes. As applications become more demanding, by collaborating across the value chain, we can gain a deeper understanding of our customers’ unmet needs, co-innovate faster, and ensure the best solutions to meet changing regulations. and physical properties and processing requirements. ”
Despite challenges such as equipment delivery delays, travel restrictions and unpredictable supply chain disruptions, Clariant’s Chinese and European teams, the local government in the petrochemical area, and external partners worked together to ensure that the project was on schedule and on budget within 18 months. Completed without incident in the 1.2 million man-hours since construction began.
The new flame retardant factory is located in the Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone (Daya Bay Petrochemical Zone) in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, and the operation team is composed of 100 local employees. Clariant’s Daya Bay plant uses green electricity, which can significantly reduce scope 2 carbon dioxide emissions. The site is also home to Clariant Care Chemicals’ ethoxylation plant, which is currently undergoing an 80 million Swiss franc expansion.
