Uses of barium stearate:

This product is mainly used in transparent films, sheets, and artificial leather , rigid plates and pipes, etc. In soft products, it is often combined with cadmium, cadmium-zinc or cadmium-lead stabilizers. It is often used together with zinc soap in the formulation of sulfur-resistant artificial leather. It is often combined with basic lead salt and lead soap in pipe and cable materials. In corrugated boards, it is often combined with cadmium soap, lead soap and basic lead salts;

It is used as a light and heat-resistant stabilizer for PVC and is the best long-term stability among alkaline earth metal stearates. , has a synergistic effect when used together with zinc and cadmium soap;

It can be used as a high-temperature resistant additive for rubber products, a light-resistant and heat-resistant stabilizer for PVC plastics, and a heat stabilizer for PVC products. Increase the softness of natural rubber and synthetic rubber;

Used as mechanical high-temperature resistant lubricant and high-temperature resistant release agent, etc.;

Reminder: Barium ion is an extremely strong muscle poison that produces excessive stimulation and excitement on smooth muscle, skeletal muscle, and cardiac muscle, and then turns to inhibition. Paralysis can also change the permeability of cell membranes, leading to hypokalemia. Clinical manifestations include nausea and vomiting, abdominal distension and diarrhea, dizziness and headache, chest tightness and palpitations, weakness of limbs, numbness of limbs, etc. In severe cases, systemic skeletal muscle flaccidity may occur. Paralysis, arrhythmias, and conduction blocks may result in asphyxia due to respiratory muscle paralysis, or cardiac arrest due to arrhythmias. Laboratory tests may show a decrease in serum potassium, which may be progressive in severe cases. Various arrhythmias and hypokalemia can be seen on the electrocardiogram. It can get better after getting out of the toxic environment, applying antidote, potassium supplementation, and symptomatic treatment. Barium poisoning is mostly acute poisoning caused by accidental ingestion, and chronic poisoning has not been reported. It is considered that the above two patients may have improper personal protection behaviors such as grabbing food and inhaling dust due to unclean hand washing, resulting in the digestion of dust containing barium stearate. Inhalation into the tract, skin, mucous membranes, and respiratory tract may cause chronic accumulation poisoning due to the low content of toxic components. Therefore, when multiple people are sick in the same environment and manifest as limb weakness, the possibility of barium poisoning should be considered.
