English name: | phenyl-propanedioic acid | Phenylmalonic acid |
|
Description of properties: | prismatic crystal. Melting point 153-155°C (decomposition). Soluble in water, ethanol, ether, slightly soluble in chloroform, carbon disulfide, benzene. |
Production method: | Obtained by hydrolysis of diethyl phenylmalonate. Hydrolysis: First add absolute ethanol into the reaction pot, stir and add granulated alkali until it is completely dissolved, cool to 45-50°C, add diethyl phenylmalonate dropwise, finish adding in about 2-3 hours, keep warm for 2 hours, and then cool to 10-15°C, filter, dry at 60°C, and pulverize to obtain sodium phenylmalonate with a yield of 90%. Acidification: Put acetone in the reaction pot, add sodium phenylmalonate, cool to 10°C, add sulfuric acid dropwise to pH=1.0-0.5. Filter, wash the filter cake four times with acetone and discard it, combine the filtrate and the washing liquid, concentrate and recover the acetone with a thin film evaporator until thick, add toluene to crystallize at 15°C and filter, wash the filter cake with toluene, filter dry, and dry , to obtain phenylmalonic acid with a yield of 76%. |
Usage: | This product is an intermediate of the antibiotic drug carbenicillin sodium. |
