Foreign media news on October 14: Data released by the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines on Friday showed that Peruvian copper production in August was 223,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.5%.
The increase in production in August was attributed to good production performance at Freeport-McMoRan and Cerro Verde, the ministry statement said.
However, August’s output was lower than July’s. The output in July was 230,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of nearly 18%
From January to August this year, Peruvian copper output was 1.77 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 18%.
Copper production suffered early this year as large-scale protests shut down operations at some mines.
Peru doubled down on its efforts to increase output, with output expected to reach 2.8 million tonnes this year, after a report said Congo could overtake Peru as the second-largest copper producer in the coming years.
