On August 9th, the ROHM Group celebrated the 90th anniversary of its star brand PLEXIGLAS®. Going back to the source of history, on August 9, 1933, it was Dr. Otto Rohm, a chemist and founder of Rohm (Dr.
Otto
Röhm) registered the PLEXIGLAS® (later registered Chinese trademark 雷克利®, for the convenience of reading, the Chinese trademark name appears below) brand trademark, so that Röhm can lay an indestructible foundation for its long-term development in the future.
Before registering the trademark, Dr. Rohm and his team invested many years of hard work and carried out in-depth scientific research. At the beginning of the 20th century, they started the research and development of plastics, polymerized methyl methacrylate for the first time, and launched a crystal-clear, hard and shatter-resistant plastic——Polymethyl methacrylate ( PMMA). Rohm then trademarked the substance under the name PLEXIGLAS®, thus opening up a whole new product field.
Since then, the PLEXIGLAS® brand has grown tremendously. Products made of it have the characteristics of high gloss, better impact resistance than glass, stronger weather resistance, easy processing and molding, and easy dyeing, and have a wide range of applications. Currently, PLEXIGLAS® has obtained trademark protection in more than 100 countries and regions including Europe, Asia and Africa.

From the very beginning, PLEXIGLAS® has been available in two products. One is semi-finished products, such as sheets, pipes, rods and films, which can be made into various products through processing methods such as sawing, grinding and thermoforming. The other is the pellet product, PLEXIGLAS® molding compound, which is processed by injection molding or extrusion.

On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the PLEXIGLAS® brand, ROHM has established a new R&D center in Worms, Germany. In recent years, it has also set up innovation centers in the United States and China, aiming at continues to expand its research and development activities worldwide. Rohm will continue to uphold the mission of the founder Dr. Rohm when he registered the PLEXIGLA® trademark, face the future and continue to develop.
