According to the Malaysian Bureau of Statistics on August 8, the export volume of natural rubber in June 2023 decreased by 16.7% year-on-year to 48,857 tons, an increase of 31.8% month-on-month. Among them, 50.6% are exported to China, followed by Germany 7.8%, the United States 4.9%, Pakistan 3.1%, and Iran 2.5%.
In June, Malaysia imported 48,031 tons of natural rubber, down 43.5% year-on-year and 21% month-on-month. Standard rubber, concentrated latex, and natural rubber in other shapes are the main import categories, and their main import sources are Thailand, Côte d'Ivoire, the Philippines, and Myanmar.
The total output of natural rubber that can be monitored in June was 29,867 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.9% and a month-on-month increase of 23.8%. Among them, the production of small gardens accounted for 85.9%, and that of state-owned plantations accounted for 14.1%.
In the second quarter, the country's natural rubber production fell 7.6% to 77,453 tons from 83,848 tons in the first quarter, an increase of 3.8% from 74,635 tons in the same period in 2022.
Malaysia's natural rubber inventory in June was 159,742 tons, down 5.4% month-on-month and 44.3% year-on-year. Among them, 88.8% of the inventory is concentrated in the hands of rubber processors, the downstream terminal inventory accounts for 11.1%, and the inventory of large planters accounts for 0.2%.
In June, total domestic natural rubber consumption decreased by 30.8% year-on-year to 25,120 tons, and decreased by 3.8% month-on-month. The latex glove industry is still the main force of natural rubber consumption in Malaysia, accounting for 70.6% of consumption, 8.6% of tire and hose consumption, 9.3% of rubber thread, and 11.5% of other industries.
