After nearly two years, the INVISTA Polymer Production Base Phase III Expansion Project successfully completed the hoisting of the first batch of modules. This expansion project with an investment of nearly 1.75 billion yuan is expected to be officially completed in the middle of next year, doubling production capacity.

As an important raw material for the manufacturing industry, nylon 6,6 is expected to usher in more demand as the automotive industry continues to grow in the future. According to INVISTA’s estimates, China’s demand for nylon 6,6 will be around 900,000 tons in 2023, and it is expected to become the world’s largest nylon consumer.

Since 2016, based on confidence in future opportunities in China, INVISTA has continued to deploy the nylon 6,6 value chain in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Zone, looking forward to meeting local and Asia-Pacific demand with stable supply. Among them, the other two investments: INVISTA Asia Pacific R&D Center and Adiponitrile Production Base were completed last year.

As a closely linked link in deepening the value chain, the expansion of polymer production bases is of great significance as a link between the past and the future: undertake key development trends in downstream fields such as electronic electrification, automotive lightweight, high-end civilian yarns, and industrial yarns. Coupled with the research and development support of the Asia Pacific Research and Innovation Center in application modification and other aspects, it provides high-quality nylon 6,6
raw materials.
In addition, since the new adiponitrile production base can support the company and other industry partners to complete the production of about 800,000 tons of nylon 6,6 polymer, INVISTA also looks forward to working with industry partners to develop the localized production of adiponitrile The synergistic effect fully stimulates the market potential of nylon 6,6.

From the perspective of engineering construction, the expansion project of the polymer production base is the first time that INVISTA adopts the modular construction method for construction, and has achieved many highlights——

The newly added polymer plant is designed with 63 modules, and the single module weighs nearly 400 tons. After pre-construction, it will be transported to the chemical industry area by water and land transport. ● 2000 tons of crawlers will be used at the project site Crane and hydraulic leveling device for precise positioning of the module

● Start a new project management attempt, reduce the impact of construction activities on existing production and optimize the construction period

● Due to the pre-construction of the modules, the number of on-site construction workers in the production base has been greatly reduced, thereby reducing safety and quality risks, and no work-related lost hours have been lost since the project was carried out

Environmental Benefits of INVISTA Nylon 6,6 Polymerization Technology

INVISTA’s nylon 6,6 polymerization technology adopts an aqueous solution method to prepare nylon 6,6 salts, without using solvents such as methanol, which combines safety and environmental protection, can simplify the process and reduce production energy consumption. Adipic acid is a key component in the production of nylon 6,6 and other chemicals. INVISTA’s world-leading nitrous oxide elimination technology can be used in the production of adipic acid, significantly reducing nitrous oxide in the production process Nitrogen emissions.

The warming effect of nitrous oxide is more than 250 times that of carbon dioxide. Therefore, using INVISTA’s technology, a new adipic acid production line with an annual output of 150,000 tons can reduce nitrous oxide emissions during the production process, which is equivalent to an annual reduction of about 13 million to 14 million for this production line The emission of 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide… is also equivalent to reducing the emission of about 3 million fuel vehicles every year.

Invista’s proprietary adiponitrile production technology reduces manufacturing costs, expands commercial scale, and improves overall efficiency. Compared with the preparation of adiponitrile by “propylene method” and “adipic acid method”, the greenhouse gas emission can be reduced by 60% and 80%.

INVISTA has always been committed to supporting the creation of a higher-end and more competitive nylon 6,6 industry chain. In addition to improving its own value chain, it is also actively exploring more industry cooperation opportunities through technology licensing and other means. In this way, we hope to achieve a win-win situation with local partners in product development, technological innovation and market dynamics, and share the fruits of industrial upgrading!

The Growth Path of INVISTA Polymer Production Base

2016 INVISTA’s 150,000-ton polymer plant was officially put into operation in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park

2020 The polymer factory has completed a production expansion of 40,000 tons, with an annual output of 190,000 tons

2021 INVISTA and Shanghai Chemical Industry Zone officially signed a cooperation memorandum, announcing plans to double the production capacity of nylon 6,6 polymer production base in Shanghai Chemical Industry Zone
