Foreign news on June 28, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) released a report on Wednesday showing that U.S. crude oil inventories fell sharply last week, while gasoline and distillate inventories increased.

U.S. crude inventories fell by 9.6 million barrels in the week to June 23 to 553.7 million barrels, compared with market expectations for a drop of 1.8 million barrels.

In the week, crude oil inventories at Cushing rose by 1.2 million barrels, the data showed.

The crude oil processing volume of U.S. refineries decreased by 216,000 barrels per day this week; the capacity utilization rate of refineries decreased by 0.9 percentage points.

EIA data also showed that U.S. gasoline inventories rose by 600,000 barrels in the week to June 23 to 222 million barrels, compared with market expectations for a decrease of 100,000 barrels.

U.S. distillate stockpiles, which include diesel and heating oil, rose by 100,000 barrels to 114.4 million barrels during the week, compared with market expectations for an increase of 800,000 barrels.

The net net import of crude oil in the United States decreased by 376,000 barrels per day this week.
