Foreign news on May 23, data released by the American Petroleum Institute (API) on Tuesday showed that U.S. crude oil and refined oil inventories both decreased last week.
Crude inventories fell by about 6.8 million barrels in the week to May 19. Gasoline stocks fell by about 6.4 million and distillate stocks fell by about 1.8 million.
Analysts had forecast that crude oil inventories were expected to rise by about 800,000 barrels last week, gasoline inventories fell by about 1.1 million barrels and distillate inventories rose by about 400,000 barrels.
