On the occasion of Milan Design Week, Covestro, the world's leading manufacturer of polymer materials and components, will participate in DESIGN SPROUTS organized and hosted by MM Design MATERIAL activity. For more than 30 years, MM Design has been one of the most important international industrial design studios, with offices in Milan, Bolzano, São Paulo and Singapore. "Design The Sprouts Material" campaign demonstrates the inextricable relationship between material and design, and how it exists in people's everyday lives, from work to leisure, activity to rest at the end of the day.
MM Design, in collaboration with Covestro, used this event facility to provide an informative experiential space for all visitors wishing to interact with innovative materials, finishes and colours. MM Design will present the new digital library Mathub, which aims to use product design not only as a formal method, but as a way to imagine innovative solutions starting from carefully selected materials. Mathub gives you access to the most suitable, safe and sustainable materials, as well as an extensive network of suppliers. They can do custom machining for new material combinations.
Home, Lifestyle & Mobility
By "Design Sprouts Material " event, Covestro presented its range of high-tech polymers and explained the relationship between these materials and finished products, giving visitors the opportunity to explore the different areas of these products: home, lifestyle and mobility. For each product, the process from idea to material to finished product will be vividly explained in a story, allowing visitors to capture the essence of the design process.
Lifestyle is about the CMF (colour, material, finish) aspect, which describes how the combined consideration of colour, material and finish shapes each person's experience with the design objects they choose and use every day. This new approach to design, which focuses on the sensuality of materials and objects, is the focal point of reference for the activities of the Center for Color and Design. The center is an international color research center located in Covestro's Filago factory in Italy.
To explain what the CMF approach means for design, Covestro uses its Aesthetic Configurator, a digital tool that enables experimentation with infinite combinations of colours, materials and surfaces, a design Part of the Sprouts Material campaign. Exhibits include Fairphone 4 Smartphones, shoes and fashion accessories, a truck tarp that can be recycled into other items, and an innovative wearable smartwatch all feature Desmopan® thermoplastic polyurethane from Covestro.
The mobile sector is mainly focused on interior materials and items for cars. Cars are transitioning to autonomous driving, and the field is booming: In the future, the passenger compartment will become a living room on wheels, and its comfort and detailed and colorful appearance will become more and more important. Polycarbonates from the Makrolon® range and polycarbonate films from the Makrofol® range from Covestro play a leading role in this because of their special versatility and ability to transmit radiation, both in lighting and from outside to inside the vehicle. information transfer within. Thermoplastics from Covestro are also protagonists in current and future e-mobility-related applications, in particular electrical boxes, charging stations, and some examples of improved surfaces involved in data exchange in the residential and automotive sectors.
On the other hand, the upholstery area will present product samples featuring innovative solutions from Covestro, such as recycled monolithic carpets made of Niaga®. The indoor garden area will be furnished with design chairs and sinks made of Arfinio®. It is a revolutionary material and innovative technology that for the first time allows the use of aliphatic polyurethanes in injection molding (RIM). It allows the production of objects of any shape in one production step and offers clear advantages over other solid surfaces in terms of brilliance, resistance and maintenance.
