BASF launches high-flow PBT for single-layer molded coffee capsules and cosmetic packaging

BASF has launched a high-fluidity PBT resin, which is specially used for injection molding thin-wall packaging of cosmetics and food. The most typical product is single-layer coffee capsules. The company’s Ultradur B1520 FC
The R01 portfolio consists of two products, Ultradur B1520 FC LM and Ultradur Barrier B1520 FC
Lm. The former reportedly ensures low migration of the material, thereby minimizing flavor interactions between the capsule material and the coffee inside.

LM also has low mobility, but the barrier function is further enhanced. After a full year, the oxygen concentration inside the capsule peaked at 0.1%. This brings the advantage of not having to carry out secondary packaging. With its Ultrasim design, BASF can provide a computing service that can reduce the weight of capsules without loss of functionality.
