The latest data from the General Administration of Customs shows that in July 2023, China imported 30.913 million tons of thermal coal (including lignite, bituminous coal, and sub-bituminous coal, the same below), a year-on-year increase of 96.17%, which is slightly higher than the previous month's increase of 137.24%. Narrow, with a month-on-month increase of 2.98%, setting a new high for the same period since at least 2012.
From January to July 2023, China imported a total of 197 million tons of thermal coal, a year-on-year increase of 97.657 million tons or 97.85%.
In July 2023, China imported 11.313 million tons of lignite, a year-on-year increase of 7.94% and a month-on-month decrease of 7.27%.
From January to July 2023, China imported a total of 94.727 million tons of lignite, a year-on-year increase of 33.8265 million tons or 55.54%.
