There is a new breakthrough in carbon dioxide hydrogenation to methanol!

On March 12, 2023, technical personnel from Luxi Chemical Group Co., Ltd. ("Luxi Group") and Southwest Chemical Industry Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd. ("Southwest Institute") jointly formed a pilot test The unit assessment team conducted a "72h working condition assessment" on the 5000t/a carbon dioxide hydrogenation to methanol pilot plant. Based on the assessment situation and test data, the identification of scientific and technological achievements and the development of process packages will be further carried out to prepare for the industrialization of this technology.

On January 16, in the pilot project of carbon dioxide hydrogenation to methanol, the first product sample was analyzed by chromatographic mass spectrometry, and the product was qualified! This marks that this 5,000-ton/year carbon dioxide hydrogenation methanol pilot plant jointly developed and constructed by Southwest Research Institute and Luxi Group has successfully started up and achieved continuous operation.

The device adopts the Southwest Research Institute's special catalyst for hydrogenation of carbon dioxide to produce methanol and the patented process of methanol synthesis from low-energy carbon dioxide. In the future, the large-scale application of this technology will effectively help coal chemical industry, electric power, metallurgy, construction and other industries to reduce carbon emissions, which is of great significance for these industries to achieve the "double carbon" goal.

Relying on the Luxi Group's 5,000 tons/year carbon dioxide hydrogenation to methanol pilot technology achievements, Southwest Research Institute will develop a 100,000-ton carbon dioxide hydrogenation to methanol process package in the future, forming a complete set of carbon dioxide hydrogenation to methanol technology with independent intellectual property rights and promote implementation. Southwest Institute will combine carbon dioxide capture and carbon-chemical technology to form a complete industrial chain of carbon dioxide capture-carbon dioxide to methanol-methanol to high-end chemicals, so as to realize carbon dioxide cycle and "methanol economy" and realize the "double carbon" goal for my country Contribute.

Project name: 5,000 tons/year carbon dioxide hydrogenation to methanol pilot project of Coal Chemical Industry No. 1 Branch of Luxi Chemical Group Co., Ltd.

Construction unit: Luxi Chemical Group Co., Ltd. Coal Chemical Industry No. 1 Branch

Construction site: Located in the existing idle land of Coal Chemical No. 1 Branch of Luxi Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. in Liaocheng Chemical Industrial Park, the geographical coordinates of the center are: N36.353, E116.149.

Construction content and investment: The enterprise invested 15.15 million yuan to build a carbon dioxide methanol pilot plant and rely on the existing methanol rectification plant to conduct methanol pilot test. The pilot test period of this project is one year.

Existing projects and their environmental protection: Coal Chemical No. 1 Branch Company currently has a 25-ton ammonia-alcohol co-production unit (being dismantled), a 180,000-ton synthetic ammonia plant, and a 300,000-ton urea plant (currently out of production), two One set of methanol washing device (normal operation), one set of coal hydrogen production device (normal operation).
