Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation announced that the company’s bio-based engineering plastic “DURABIO™” has been adopted by Pilot’s ballpoint pen “Acroball T Series Biomass
Plastic” and ” FRIXION Ball Knock 05 Biomass
Plastic” is used as the main part (rear lever). Pilot sells these products from February 3, 2022.
DURABIO™ is a bio-based engineering plastic made from a renewable plant-derived raw material “isosorbide
“, is a very durable material. In addition, this plastic can be applied to various parts because of its good color rendering during coloring and formability during processing. The reason for using It is precisely because of these excellent properties that this material has been highly evaluated. This is the first case where DURABIO™ is applied to stationery.
Using biomass plastics made from plant-derived materials like DURABIO™ can reduce oil consumption, a depletable resource. It can also contribute to reducing greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming, as the plants that make up the raw material absorb carbon dioxide as they grow. Mitsubishi Chemical will continue to focus on the development of DURABIO™ to achieve carbon neutrality.
