Elmira Industrial Products in Europe, Turkey and CIS (Independent States Consortium) and other regions began to supply cardanol-based polyols through cashew shell liquid.
The material is sold under the company's Exaphen brand, and the product grades include a viscosity of 1000~30,000 centipoise, a hydroxyl number of about 200, and a functional range of 4~8.
"There are various types of products, and the range of grades can meet the application on polyurethane resin and rigid foam." Elmira manager Pierluigi Ferri said.
He also believes that the aforementioned cashew shell liquid product is not a substitute for petroleum, PET (polyethylene terephthalate) or sugar alcohols, but a polyol that offers many useful properties. Ferri added that the product's good performance is comparable to that of petroleum-based polyols.
The capacity of Elmira's plant in Mumbai, India is about 3,000 tons per year.
The company also has a warehouse in Latvia. Unipol Kimya and ResChem operate a distribution center for the company's products in Istanbul and Milan, Italy, respectively.
Ferri added that DKSH is evaluating the company's product in France, "If the order quantity exceeds a few tons, it can be shipped directly from India."
Elmira will present details of the polyol product at UTECH Europe (European Polyurethane Exhibition) held in Maastricht, the Netherlands from May 29th to 31st, 2018.
