1. Introduction to Liquefied MDI

   Liquefied MDI is a modified MDI developed in the 1970s. The common Liquefied MDI refers to pure MDI through Chemical reaction, the introduction of carbodiimide groups, the liquid product obtained.

The physical properties of the products obtained by different manufacturers and different modification methods are different. Generally, the shelf life of liquefied MDI is six months if the moisture-proof and oxygen-proof storage conditions can be guaranteed.

2. Production process of liquefied MDI

Liquefied MDI is based on Pure MDI is used as raw material, select an appropriate catalyst (such as cyclic phosphine oxide), and after heating together, MDI self-polymerizes and releases carbon dioxide, forming part of carbodiimide-containing groups (-N=C=N -) liquid mixture.

3. Liquefied MDI structural characteristics and performance advantages

When polyurethane is hydrolyzed, the ester group will first break and saponify to generate hydroxyl and carboxyl groups, which will play an autocatalytic role in the further hydrolysis of polyurethane materials, which is more harmful.

Liquefied MDI products not only have high reactivity and benzene rings, but also contain overlapping unsaturated double bonds - carbodiimide bond. However, carbodiimide is easy to react with carboxyl groups to form ureide products, which can effectively prevent the spread of polyurethane hydrolysis and effectively improve the hydrolysis resistance.

4. Application direction

  Liquefied MDI can be used as an isocyanate component for:

1. Manufacture of microcellular polyurethane elastomer, molded soft polyurethane and self-skinned foam plastics, such as shoe soles, solid core tires, and automobile bumpers, fenders, shock absorbers, spoilers, steering wheels, Seat headrests, armrests, interior trim, etc.

2. Manufacture of cold-cured high-resilience PU soft foam, self-skinned soft foam and semi-rigid foam products. Such as the production of automobiles, train seat cushions, steering wheels and armrests.

3. Manufacture of elastomers, sealants, adhesives, coatings, fabric coating finishing agents, etc.

In 2017, the consumption of liquefied MDI products in China was about 73,500 tons, an increase of 12.56% compared with 2016 . The domestic demand for liquefied MDI mainly depends on the growth of downstream demand such as microporous elastomers, automotive filter rubber and self-crusting skin .

It is expected that liquefied MDI will maintain a certain growth rate in 2018, but due to the impact of environmental protection policies and the overall economic environment, etc. , it is expected that the growth rate may drop slightly compared with the previous one.
