Aggregated MDI
Driven by the growth of exports to countries such as the United States and the Netherlands, 2021 In May 2019, China’s polymeric MDI export volume increased by 37.8% month-on-month
According to the latest data released by China Customs, in May 2021, the export volume of China’s aggregated MDI was 112,794.60 tons, a year-on-year increase of 309.1%. A quarter-on-quarter increase of 37.8%. From January to May 2021, China’s cumulative export volume of polymeric MDI was 456,693.76 tons, a year-on-year increase of 92.6% compared with the cumulative export volume from January to May last year.
Break down by export destination country, in May 2021, the United States, the Netherlands and Canada were the top three export destination countries (by export weight) of China’s aggregated MDI. Among them, the quantity of polymeric MDI exported to the United States was 34,563 tons, an increase of 74.7% from the previous month; the quantity of polymeric MDI exported to the Netherlands was 21,475 tons, an increase of 114.7% from the previous month; 49.7%. Canada was the third largest exporter in the month, and the amount of aggregated MDI exported to Canada was 6,774 tons, an increase of 56.7% from the previous month.

In May 2021, China’s polymeric MDI import volume increased by 33.9% month-on-month, Imports from Saudi Arabia, Japan and South Korea all increased month-on-month
In May 2021, China’s polymeric MDI import volume was 28,397.56 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 21.8%, and a month-on-month increase of 33.9%. From January to May 2021, China’s cumulative import of polymeric MDI was 131,909.27 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 11.6% compared to the cumulative export volume from January to May of last year.
Breakdown by country of origin of imports, China imports from Saudi Arabia, Japan and South Korea, May 2021 The volume of polymeric MDI imported by these three major import source countries all showed a month-on-month increase. Among them, the quantity of polymeric MDI imported from Saudi Arabia was 14,796 tons, an increase of 45.9% from the previous month; the quantity of polymeric MDI (including MDI mother liquor) imported from Japan was 8,431 tons, an increase of 32.3% from the previous month; the polymeric MDI imported from South Korea The volume was 3,634 tons, an increase of 4.3% from the previous month. The amount of polymeric MDI imported from the above three main source countries increased by 16,504 tons compared with the previous month.

Pure MDI
In May 2021, China’s pure MDI export volume was 9,327.47 tons, a year-on-year increase of 179.1%. A month-on-month decrease of 12.5%. From January to May 2021, China’s cumulative export volume of pure MDI was 53,713.75 tons, a year-on-year increase of 41.1% compared with the cumulative export volume from January to May last year.
In May 2021, China imported 4,814.32 tons of pure MDI, a year-on-year decrease of 25.6% and a month-on-month increase of 7.5%. From January to May 2021, China’s cumulative import of pure MDI was 29,370.76 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 15.6% compared with the cumulative export volume from January to May of last year.
