As an emerging industry, cold chain logistics is booming. While the demand in the cold chain market is increasing, governments of various countries have continuously introduced policies and measures to boost the development of the cold chain logistics industry. According to the market size of cold chain transportation in the Asia-Pacific region, from 68.32 billion US dollars in 2019 to 133.97 billion US dollars in 2027, the compound annual growth rate during the period is close to 10%. However, the cold chain logistics and transportation equipment in the Asia-Pacific region is inferior to ground refrigeration facilities in terms of quantity and quality, especially in the operation of linking cold storage and cold chain transportation, the goods are most likely to be exposed to high temperatures. The quality of local cold chain services varies. Food has been spoiled due to lack of refrigeration. An estimated 90% of food waste in Southeast Asia is generated during transportation.

As one of the key regions for global industrial transfer, the development of Southeast Asian countries is attracting attention , according to the Economic Research Institute of ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), the total capacity of Thailand's cold storage facilities is 940,000 tons. Indonesia and Myanmar were 370,000 tons and 88,000 tons respectively. On the one hand, the increase in meat consumption in Southeast Asian countries is one of the main reasons for the development of the local cold chain industry. According to statistics, Malaysia has basically achieved self-sufficiency in poultry meat, with an annual per capita consumption of nearly 50 kg. Thailand is the fourth largest poultry exporter in the world. About 80% of poultry is produced by vertically integrated farms. The per capita annual consumption in 2020 is about 7.9 kg. Currently, Thailand’s pork production is mainly for domestic consumption, but it is reported that Thailand’s Hog exports rose 339% in 2020 as it was one of the few countries not to report any outbreaks. Vietnam and the Philippines are the next two largest pork consumers in the region, with per capita annual consumption of 25 kg and 14.9 kg, respectively. As all these meat products are perishable in nature and must be delivered in retail outlets, some are frozen packaged, there has been a surge in cold chain logistics in the ASEAN region. Global brands, on the other hand, have turned to the Muslim economy in recent years to capitalize on rising purchasing power and changing consumer spending priorities. Some 260 million Muslims live in the ASEAN region, most of them in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar and Brunei. These consumers are driving the growth of demand for halal food. Since most halal foods are meat products, they need to be stored in cold chain warehouses that have obtained halal certification from the relevant government. The huge consumer groups and transportation & storage demands have led to a significant increase in the consumption of insulation panels used in cold chain transportation and storage.
Driven by the three major factors of energy saving, environmental protection, and food/drug safety, the cold chain Transportation is ushering in a period of rapid development, and the market demand and scale of cold chain transportation in the Asia-Pacific region will continue to grow.
