Yesterday, LyondellBasell's Bayport Complex in Pasadena, Texas (BayPOrt Complex) celebrated the 50th anniversary of its propylene oxide (PO) plant and released the latest News, explaining the most important investment project of the integrated plant in the company so far - the world's largest propylene oxide (PO)/tert-butanol (TBA) device construction plays an important role.

In addition to the 50th anniversary ceremony, the complex commemorates this important moment by further demonstrating the company's support for developmental education. In addition, the Bayport complex announced plans for employees to work with Trees for Houston to plant 50 trees in local communities to commemorate the plant's 50th anniversary in operation.

LyondellBasell built the PO device near the Houston Ship Channel in 1969, which was the first in the world at that time Class factory, using the latest tert-butyl hydroperoxide process technology to produce PO.

The unit was built to meet the growing market demand for PO in the 1970s. The reason why Bayport was chosen as the location for the device construction at that time was that it was close to the source of raw materials and transportation pipelines, and the current Bayport complex will also make history again because of this. LyondellBasell is building the world's largest propylene oxide (PO)/tert-butanol (TBA) plant, while Bayport played an important role in this project.

PO/TBA device will be designed as an independent device to optimize the company's product mix and realize the synergy of the two devices. The 140-acre PO/TBA unit will be built at LeondellBasell's Chanelview Complex in Chanelview, Texas The associated 34-acre ether plant, which will convert TBA to oxyfuel, will be built at the Bayport Complex in Pasadena. The PO/TBA unit is scheduled to be operational in 2021, with an estimated total investment of US$2.4 billion, making it the company's largest capital investment project to date.

Bayport Complex and PO Plant History

The PO unit at the Bayport Complex was originally constructed by Oxirane Chemical Company, the Atlantic A joint venture between Atlantic Richfield Company and a subsidiary of Halcon International Inc. After several shareholding changes over the years, the unit finally became part of LyondellBasell's portfolio when Lyondell and Basell merged in 2007.

The complex produces raw materials used in paints and coatings, food packaging and household items, generating an estimated $530 million per year for the local community and employing 1,150 workers. In addition to the PO unit, two other units are located at the 880-acre Riliand Basel Bayport Complex, including the 1974 The polymer plant in operation and the ethylene oxide plant in operation in 1981.
