Adiprene C930 is a unique low-free MDI-based castable polyurethane developed by specialty chemicals company LANXESS and is a material suitable for injection molding.
South Korean company Autox has developed a new production process that can be used for injection molding cast polyurethane. This innovative technology combines the processing advantages of injection molding with the excellent performance of cast polyurethane, bringing new application prospects for cast polyurethane. Autox recently launched a new shaker for the mining industry, which is injection molded from Adiprene cast polyurethane prepolymer.
Advantages of Injection Molding
One of the advantages of injection molding is high production efficiency and low cost. In a shorter time, using one mold, more parts can be produced. Lower labor costs (usually lower than cast molding) also contribute to their low cost. For example, it currently takes only five minutes to produce injection molded screens, compared to the typical 35 minutes required by casting. Adiprene LF prepolymers improve industrial hygiene and ease of processing. Due to its lower viscosity than conventional prepolymers, it is well suited for injection molding processes.
Extend screen life and screening efficiency
The industry has strict requirements on vibrating screens and needs to withstand harsh mining operating environments. Mining screen mesh made of Adiprene C930 has excellent wear resistance and resilience performance, which improves the service life of the parts and the screening efficiency. The performance of this caprolactone-based screen is backed up by field tests. Tests have proven that the life of this screen is three times longer than the premium reference screens on the market. This unique screen technology reduces downtime in mining operations, saving maintenance costs.
Improve waste management
Autox's new process can process cast polyurethane prepolymers, so the performance of molded parts is better. Because the pressure required for injection allows the fluid to get into the fine details of the part, it is easier to mold complex shaped parts. The injection molding process addresses a major issue in the industry, namely waste management. Since the process maintains a consistent quality, the generation of chips is reduced and waste due to scrap reduction is also reduced.
While Autox and LANXESS, which supplies Adiprene C930, have proven that the polyurethane injection molding process has been used with great success in the production of mining screens, both recognize that other applications could also benefit from the process.
