According to Covestro, due to force majeure, the company is located in Uerdingen The electrolyte line of an electrolysis line was severely damaged, so the plant, as well as downstream production plants such as MDI and PCS plants, had to stop operating.

Currently, Covestro cannot predict exactly how long this situation will last and how production can be resumed. Based on Covestro's current assessment, compensation for the failure of the affected electrolysis line is only expected to a small extent. Therefore, it is expected that there will be a significant shortfall in the delivery volume of the products concerned.

According to Covestro’s current assessment, in the best case, the chlorine plant will Complete restart by December 31, 2022. The company will keep clients informed of any changes to the assessment, particularly with regard to the restart date.

Due to this incident, Covestro has declared force majeure which will affect the following products :
- Chlorine
- Sodium hydroxide solution
- hydrochloric acid
- Hydrogen
- Polycarbonate , Bayblend and Makkelland products
- Certain MDI products

Covestro said it would keep customers informed of any further developments and of any measures the company is taking to prevent or minimize disruption and losses to customers.
