On May 16, according to relevant personnel, Dow Chemical plans to launch previously closed its propylene oxide (PO) plant in Freeport, Texas.

The unit is nearing the end of its life and the decision to shut down the unit is Dow Chemical Part of the effort to optimize cost and availability. The PO plant will continue to operate until the end of 2025, while the downstream polyether polyol plant will continue to operate after the closure of the PO plant. Currently, the PO plant in Freeport provides raw materials for the polyol plant.

After 2025, Dow will use its global propylene oxide assets or third-party Suppliers supply PO for polyol plants. The company is also investing in logistics capabilities such as propylene oxide storage tanks, pipelines and new barges to bring external PO to the site.
