Interview with Yang Wenqi, Business Manager of Honeywell Fluoroproducts Department
In October 2011, Honeywell and Sinochem jointly announced that the two parties had signed an agreement to form a 50:50 cooperative enterprise, mainly producing and selling polyurethane foam HFC-245fa blowing agent for thermal insulation materials to meet the growing demand for energy-saving and environmentally friendly materials in the Asia-Pacific region. The new company will be located in Sinochem Chemical Park, Taicang City, Jiangsu Province, and is expected to start production at the end of 2013.
Recently, a reporter from Tiantian Chemical Network interviewed Yang Wenqi, Business Manager of Honeywell’s Fluoroproducts Department, and exchanged ideas on Honeywell’s development plan and product promotion in the new year.
Yang Wenqi told Tiantian Chemical Network that in 2011, Honeywell performed well in the promotion of fluorine products, which is also closely related to the development and growth of the fluorine chemical industry.
Specific to Honeywell’s main production and sales of HFC-245fa blowing agent, Yang Wenqi said: “This is a blowing agent that does not deplete ozone at all, and can be widely used in household appliances , construction, refrigerated transportation and other fields. This will be an ideal substitute in the process of eliminating the blowing agent HCFC-141b that does not meet environmental requirements in China.”
In order to achieve the phase-out target of the HCFCs accelerated phase-out adjustment plan, the Environmental Protection Foreign Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Environmental Protection organized the preparation of the “Phase HCFC-141b phase-out plan for China’s polyurethane foam industry”. According to the plan, home electronics industries such as refrigerators and freezers will be the focus of the elimination project in the next few years, and it is planned to establish an alternative technology promotion center to promote the introduction, research, development and application of alternatives and alternative technologies. Honeywell’s blowing agent products are mainly home appliances. For a more ideal and green alternative product, Yang Wenqi introduced to the reporter the Solstice brand product officially launched in the United States in September 2011: “Solstice LBA liquid foaming agent invented by Honeywell was officially launched in September last year. Compared with the existing HFC-245fa, the product has a further improvement in thermal insulation performance, and more importantly, it solves the problem of the greenhouse gas effect. HFC-245fa solves the problem of ozone layer destruction, but it still has a certain greenhouse gas effect. Its global The warming potential (GWP) is 1030, while the new product has a GWP of less than 7 and does not damage the ozone layer. Compared with the previous generation of products, Solstice LBA liquid blowing agent is more environmentally friendly and can bring about energy efficiency improvements, and is now in customer trials At this stage, customers are very interested in the results of sample testing, and our target plan is to commercialize this product globally in 2013.”
The joint venture factory established in Taicang is also expected to produce this new product. “The products produced by the Taicang factory will be mainly used in the Chinese market.” Yang Wenqi said, “As one of the major manufacturing bases, China is growing rapidly from home appliances to refrigerated containers, including the construction industry. These industries will use polyurethane. Therefore, China will be a large application base in the future. For this reason, Honeywell has long paid attention to the development of the Chinese market, hoping to find localized supplies in the country to meet the needs of this market. .”
At present, Honeywell’s products are used in home appliances, refrigerated containers, construction and other fields. A large part of the business is spraying. After HCFC-141b is phased out, is there any more suitable product in the field of spraying? At present, HFC-245fa or the next generation of Solstice LBA blowing agent are ideal substitutes. Because they are all non-flammable foaming agents. Firstly, they are safe in application, and secondly, they can improve the flame retardancy of the board itself, so it will have great potential in the construction field.”
