The company is a high-tech enterprise in Shandong Province, a patent star enterprise in Shandong Province, an executive director unit of China Polyurethane Industry Association, and one of the top ten suppliers in China’s polyurethane industry. It has won the “Zibo City Science and Technology Progress Award”, “Zibo City Energy Conservation Outstanding Achievement Award”, and “Zibo City Top 50 Industrial Enterprises” in 2016-2017.
As we all know, China’s polyether polyol industry is fiercely competitive. However, in such an environment, DXN Federation has rapidly developed from an unknown recruit to a top-ranking high-quality polyether supplier in China. The fast speed has attracted the attention of the industry, and is recognized as “Dexin Federal Speed” by China’s polyurethane industry. So where does the continuous power that this big ship relies on come from? With curiosity and respect, Tiantian Chemical Network visited this local polyurethane company in Zibo and had the honor to interview Mr. Geng Dianyong, the leader and technical expert of the company.
1. Go up the tall building alone, looking at the end of the world
Reporter: Mr. Geng, hello! The development speed of Dexin Federation in the past ten years is obvious to all. Could you please give us a brief introduction to the company’s growth history.
Mr. Geng: Our company was established in April 2005. At first, there were only 3 production lines with a production capacity of less than 30,000 tons. At that time, I was not in charge management company. Due to the weak technical foundation and poor product quality, it is difficult to open up sales, so the company has been in a state of loss. Our investors and management are very confused. Should we continue or give up? After discussing it several times, I finally advocated that we should continue to do it. But how? It takes a lot of courage to save the situation. At the end of 2007, I was appointed as the general manager in a critical situation. After a series of effective reform measures, I finally achieved some results. In 2008, I turned losses into profits and made a profit of 94,000 yuan. Although the 94,000 yuan is nothing to an enterprise, it has greatly boosted the confidence of our entire enterprise.
Reporter: In the first few years of its establishment, Dexin Federation was in the red and even had the risk of being sold, but it turned into a profit in the first year after you became the general manager , how did you do it?
Mr. Geng:Yes, the company was facing a very difficult situation at that time, which can be said to be internal and external. My thinking at the time was that there was no way out anyway, so I had to give it a go. If we wanted to survive, we had to change, and nothing could stop us from reforming. So I did a few things at the time: First, gather all the technical strength of the company to solve the persistent problems of product quality. I remember that the factory had been put into production for a period of time, but the quality of our products had not been normal, which was the most fundamental problem restricting the development of the company. Later, after several rounds of verification and discussion with the production technicians, I finally found the root cause of the problem, and the product quality has been significantly improved since then. The second is to change the traditional inherent polyether market thinking, boldly introduce new technologies, use innovative processes, and dare to be the first person to eat crabs. It can be said that the development of Dexin Federation relies on bold reform awareness and continuous technological innovation. with practice. In 2008, we took the lead in using the DMC catalytic method to successfully trial production in a 55m³ reactor, which laid a good foundation for future large-scale development; the third is to straighten out the company’s management and operation system, establish a flat management structure, and require the entire plant to Employees establish the working philosophy of “efficiency, diligence, innovation, and service”. I think that now that the major problem of product quality has been solved, a series of coordinating work must follow up: in addition to requiring the biotechnology department to work with “stable quality and high efficiency”, the sales department must also put in 12 points of effort to develop Customers and service to the end, supply, finance, technology and other external and internal work of all departments must be carried out with the principle of improving product quality and promoting product sales.
Afterwards, from 2009 to 2012, we continued to expand production while the iron was hot, gradually increasing production lines, continuously increasing production capacity, and enhancing market competitiveness. Among them, POP continuous production is another process for us to transform technological innovation into practical production. From small test to pilot test, from batch method to continuous method, from low solid content to high solid content and high hardness, it has gone through a long process, applied for a number of patents, and obtained a lot of technological progress. Phased results have been achieved in the market: as of now, we still occupy more than 60% of the domestic shoe material market.��.
From 2013 to 2016, we did not continue to expand blindly, but settled down to consolidate the technical foundation, consolidate the market share and brand effect of Dexin Federation, and achieved very obvious results. During this period, I led the company’s technical team to concentrate on researching new technologies and product production processes, reserved more than 20 new products, and conducted a large number of improvement tests on existing production processes, preparing new content for the next expansion. . By the end of 2016, I felt that the time was right, and we had to keep up with the changes in the market, adjust the existing product structure, reduce costs through economies of scale, and improve our competitiveness, so we were determined to continue to expand the scale. In May 2017, we The technical transformation device of the company was successfully put into operation, and the new production capacity was 100,000 tons. In this process, the impetus of new production technology is very obvious. Through technological innovation, the production efficiency has been greatly improved, the production cost has been reduced, the safety environment has been improved, and new strength has been injected into the development of the enterprise.

Reporter: At present, the domestic polyether industry has a huge production capacity and unprecedented competition. Facing this situation, how does Dexin Federation respond?
Mr. Geng:Indeed, under the current situation of increasingly fierce market competition, my idea for the company is to “adjust the structure, reduce costs, The supply-side reform idea of improving quality, increasing efficiency, and grabbing the market” is also inspired by General Secretary Xi’s major policies. Specifically: First, implement the scale strategy. Based on the actual development of the enterprise, we will continue to tap internal potentials, strive to reduce marginal costs, and achieve economies of scale. The second is to attach importance to technological innovation. Sizing up the situation, relying on the advantages of the introduction of talents, we will continue to open up the market and accelerate the company’s development. Our technical efforts have also received the attention and support of the government. Our company has created the only polyether polyol technology center in Shandong Province. In the past five years, we have developed more than 60 new grades and obtained 36 invention patents. There are 24 patents, 6 of which are included in the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Development Project, and 74 invention patents are under application and review. It is a patent star enterprise in Shandong Province and won the “Zibo City Patent Technology First Prize”. These gains have further strengthened our confidence and determination to attach importance to technology research and development and the transformation of achievements. The third is to extend the product chain. I don’t like to rest on my laurels. In today’s market competition, companies that only produce one product will not have much vitality. So I told our technical team: we can’t be a frog in a well, we should base ourselves on the polyether industry, broaden our vision, pay attention to new market trends, and strive to achieve new breakthroughs in the industry. In this context, the polyetheramine series products researched by our technical team achieved large-scale production in 2015, and now they have occupied more than 50% of the domestic market share; the fourth is to strengthen cooperation with well-known polyurethane companies at home and abroad. The fifth is to give full play to the brand effect and fully implement the marketing promotion strategy. Establish a scientific and effective marketing network to further deepen excellent marketing. The sixth is to continuously deepen production management, highlight “strictness, detail, and practicality”, reduce costs, improve quality, and continuously improve management. The seventh is to highlight the construction of corporate culture and fully mobilize the enthusiasm and creativity of employees. Over the past few years, the workforce has remained stable, and employee income has increased every year.

Mr. Geng:In the next few years, we will still be guided by technological innovation, and will further base on the national development policy, market demand and Strategic goals, according to the actual situation of the company, achieve major technological breakthroughs, strive to improve product quality, and continue to extend the industrial chain downward in the direction of polyether, build a new factory, and strive to achieve an annual output of 500,000 tons of polyether within 5 years. 100,000 tons of polyurethane, annual sales income of 7.5 billion yuan, profit and tax of 375 million yuan, making the company a platform for the front-end technology of the polyurethane industry.
Reporter: Last question, Mr. Geng, what do you think is the fundamental driving force behind the company’s ability to achieve “Dexin Federal Speed” along the way?
Mr. Geng:At the beginning of 2017, I wanted to establish an awareness for all employees in our company: everyone should have their own dreams, For this dream, we must guard against arrogance and impetuosity and keep moving forward. I call this awareness the “dream chasing” spirit. This spirit is the driving force for us to keep moving forward.
