Innovators released two wetting agents, TEGO® Wet 290 and TEGO® Wet 296. Both products are suitable for use on a variety of substrates such as wood, plastic and metal surfaces and are primarily used in waterborne automotive and wood coatings. These two wetting agents improve wetting and anti-cratering properties, improve flow and leveling.
New solution for automotive and wood coatings that enhances visual appeal
The automotive market is increasingly demanding glossy coatings with unique colours. TEGO® Wet 290 and TEGO® Wet 296 have excellent flow and leveling properties and are very suitable for automotive coatings. Both products also have excellent wood pore wetting, which helps wood coatings to perfectly reveal the substrate structure, which is important for many end applications.
As a global partner of coatings customers, Evonik is constantly expanding its products to meet the evolving needs of the market and customers. The two new wetting agents meet the appearance requirements of automotive and wood furniture coatings.
Composition of TEGO® Wet 290 and TEGO® Wet 296
The difference between TEGO® Wet 290 and TEGO® Wet 296 mainly lies in the composition: TEGO® Wet 290 is composed of 100% polyether-modified siloxane, so it is especially suitable for formulations requiring low volatility; TEGO® Wet 296 is 52% DPM (dipropylene glycol methyl ether) solution of polyether modified siloxane, very suitable for low solid content formulations such as water-based automotive primers.
In addition, TEGO® Wet 296 is easier to add to formulations as a diluted version: overdosing can lead to surface craters, which are less prone to defects. If desired, customers can also dilute TEGO® Wet 290 to the level required by the formulation.
