Data from the General Administration of Customs on September 7 showed that China exported 8.282 million tons of steel in August 2023, an increase of 974,000 tons from the previous month, a month-on-month increase of 13.4%; the cumulative export of steel from January to August was 58.785 million tons, a year-on-year increase 28.4%.
In August, China imported 640,000 tons of steel, a decrease of 38,000 tons from the previous month and a month-on-month decrease of 5.6%; from January to August, China imported a total of 5.058 million tons of steel, a year-on-year decrease of 32.1%.
In August, China imported 106.415 million tons of iron ore and its concentrates, an increase of 12.939 million tons from the previous month and a month-on-month increase of 13.8%; from January to August, China imported a total of 775.658 million tons of iron ore and its concentrates, a year-on-year increase 7.4%.
In August, China imported 44.333 million tons of coal and lignite, an increase of 5.073 million tons from the previous month, a month-on-month increase of 12.9%; from January to August, China imported a total of 305.513 million tons of coal and lignite, a year-on-year increase of 82.0%.
