On August 31, the 260,000 tons/year polycarbonate project of China-Saudi Arabia (Tianjin) Petrochemical Co., Ltd. was put into commercial operation in Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone. This project is another fruitful result of the joint venture between Sinopec and Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) after the million-ton ethylene project. It will meet the growing domestic market demand for polycarbonate and promote the rapid development of the high-end new materials industry.
Polycarbonate is an important engineering plastic and a high-end new chemical material. It is colorless, transparent, impact-resistant, heat-resistant, sturdy, and lightweight. It is widely used in aerospace, electrical and electronics, medical equipment and other fields.
The polycarbonate project put into production this time started construction in 2018. It adopts the world's advanced non-phosgene melting process and builds two new polycarbonate production lines with a production capacity of 130,000 tons/year, which can produce mixed grade, extrusion Polycarbonate products such as grade and injection molding grade will be given priority in the future to be supplied to key industries such as electrical and electronics, construction and building materials in China. It is understood that the Sinopec (Tianjin) Petrochemical polycarbonate project has been put into commercial operation, marking a solid step for Sinopec to develop high-end chemical materials and will provide more high-end new materials for the domestic market.
