● The new plastic additive series replaces fossil raw materials with renewable raw materials through certified mass balance methods
● Launch products include Irganox® 1010 BMBcert™ and Irganox® 1076 BMBcert™ antioxidants certified by TÜV Nord under ISCC Plus
● Industry-first solution to promote sustainable development of plastics
BASF announces industry’s first portfolio of biomass-balanced plastic additives, starting with Irganox® 1010 BMBcert™ and Irganox® 1076 FD
BMBcert™. The products have been certified for mass balance by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification Body (ISCC PLUS) by TÜV Nord
Perform certification. These industry-first solutions support the replacement of fossil feedstocks with renewable feedstocks, helping customers achieve their sustainability goals.
BASF’s biomass portfolio (BMBcert) helps reduce the need for fossil feedstocks. At the beginning of the value chain, fossil-based raw materials are
Certified biobased raw materials are substituted and the corresponding quantities are included in the product according to the mass balance method. Through these sustainably sourced renewable raw materials, the carbon footprint of the product “from cradle to gate” is significantly reduced, which can be reduced by up to 60% compared to the global average carbon footprint of traditional brand products.
Certified additives therefore contribute to sustainable development by saving fossil resources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting the use of renewable raw materials. This unique solution helps customers differentiate their products from the competition while maintaining the same performance and quality while helping them achieve their sustainability goals.
Irganox® 1010 BMBcert™ and Irganox 1076 FD BMBcert are drop-in replacements for Irganox 1010 and Irganox
1076. These biomass product portfolios are identical to traditional grades in terms of performance, quality, product management and regulatory oversight. As a result, customers do not need to recertify or reformulate their products for new additives.
