On July 1, the new ionic liquid catalytic ethylene-synthesis gas method for producing methyl methacrylate (MMA) green technology independently developed by the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was launched in Henan Zhongke Puyuan New Materials Co., Ltd., 300,000 tons The groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of the MMA project was held in Puyang Economic and Technological Development Zone. More than 200 people attended the ceremony, including Academician Zhang Tao, Vice President and Party Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academician Zhang Suojiang, Director of the Institute of Process Engineering, Yang Qingjiu, Secretary of the Puyang Municipal Party Committee, and Liang Tieshan, Chairman of Henan Nenghua Group.
Zhang Tao said that this project is an important output with the support of the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ leading position in the comprehensive utilization of clean and purified low-grade coal. The ionic liquid catalyzed ethylene-synthesis gas legal MMA industrialization device has opened up a new path and new space for the development of MMA and downstream industries, providing strong technical support for the high-end, differentiated, and green development of my country’s modern coal chemical industry. It is hoped that the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Henan Energy will strengthen cooperation to achieve the transfer and transformation of more scientific and technological achievements and help enterprises and local governments develop in high quality.
Zhang Suojiang said that this cooperation between the Institute of Process Engineering and Henan Energy originated 12 years ago. From the decision to establish the project, to the design of the kiloton-level pilot plant, pilot testing, and then to the achievement appraisal in 2019, the two parties have spent more than ten years of cooperation. Joint research has achieved technological breakthroughs and project implementation. The start of the MMA project has launched a comprehensive strategic cooperation between the Process Engineering Institute and Henan Energy. While achieving technical success and bringing economic benefits, this project can also achieve the goals of carbon reduction and energy conservation, making a positive contribution to my country’s dual-carbon strategy. MMA’s downstream products are mainly developed in the direction of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), surface coatings, and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) modifiers. They can be used to manufacture organic glass, coatings, lubricant additives, etc. The organic glass they manufacture It is widely used in fields such as LCD light guide plates, LED lamps and automotive lenses. In addition, MMA is also an indispensable monomer in the production of major national strategic materials such as aerospace glass, optical fibers, high-performance optical lenses, and electronic information devices.
