Mebendazole is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic that can completely kill hookworm eggs and whipworm eggs and partially kill roundworms The role of the egg is that it has a strong affinity for β-tubulin in the insect body and can bind to it at very low concentrations. It can inhibit the polymerization of its microtubules by affecting the metabolism of carbohydrates in the insect body and the generation of related energy. , causing the disappearance of the worm's epidermis or intestinal cells, selectively and irreversibly inhibiting the worm's uptake of glucose and other nutrients from the intestine, and finally leading to the death of the worm. It is suitable for the treatment of infections caused by single or multiple helminths in humans and animals such as whipworms, pinworms, hookworms, tapeworms, Strongyloides stercoralis, roundworms, etc., but is ineffective against hydatid disease.
Mebendazole is also an oxidative phosphorylation uncoupling agent, which can inhibit fumarate reductase in mitochondria and reduce glucose transport, thereby affecting ATP production.
Mebendazole Suspension can inhibit the uptake of glucose by intestinal parasites, leading to the depletion of glycogen stored in the parasites and reducing the formation of adenosine triphosphate in the parasites, but does not affect the glucose level in the host's blood. Ultrastructural observation shows that mebendazole suspension can cause the degeneration of microtubules in the cytoplasm of insect capsule cells and intestinal cells, causing the accumulation of Golgi endocrine granules, resulting in transport blockage, cytoplasmic dissolution, and complete denaturation of absorptive cells, thus causing the parasite die.
Drug Interactions
Combined use with drugs that inhibit liver microsomal enzyme activity such as cimetidine can inhibit the metabolism of mebendazole and increase the blood concentration of the drug.
Combined use with drugs that induce hepatic microsomal enzymes such as phenytoin or carbamazepine can accelerate the metabolism of mebendazole suspension and reduce the blood concentration of the drug.
Usage and dosage
Oral Mebendazole Suspension
Usual dosage for adults
Treatment of roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms: 5ml once, twice a day, for 3 days. Repeat the medication once every 2 weeks and 4 weeks.
Treatment of pinworms: 5ml once a day for 3 days. Repeat the medication once every 2 weeks and 4 weeks.
Treatment of tapeworms and strongyloidiasis: 5ml once, twice a day, for 3 days.
Children
Children over 4 years old should use adult dosage; those under 4 years old should use half the dosage.
There are many types of pesticides on the fishery drug market. Common ones include mebendazole solution, pyrethroid insecticides, abamectin solution, copper sulfate, etc.
Treatment of monogenean parasitic diseases such as fish anatomyosis, pseudoantonyloasis, and third-generation parasitic diseases.
Add this product to 2000 times of water to dilute it evenly and then sprinkle it on herring, grass carp, silver carp, bighead carp, mandarin fish, and sweet-scented osmanthus. Use 67 to 100g of the original drug per mu and meter of water. For European eels and American eels, 167-334g of the original drug should be used per acre and meter of water body. If the condition is serious, double the dosage can be used.
Adverse reactions
A very small number of patients have nausea, abdominal discomfort, abdominal pain, diarrhea, etc. Fatigue, rash, and rare exfoliative dermatitis, generalized alopecia, and increased blood eosinophils can still occur, and all can return to normal on their own. Serious adverse reactions often occur when the dose is too large, the medication time is too long, and the interval is too short.
Mebendazole Chewable Tablets
Broad-spectrum anthelmintic drugs can directly inhibit the glucose uptake of intestinal parasites, causing glycogen depletion in the parasites, making them unable to survive and die.
[Indications] Used for ascariasis and pinworms.
[Usage and Dosage] Take orally. For adults, take 2 tablets at a time, chew into pieces and take once. For children over 4 years old, use the adult dosage, and for children 2 to 4 years old, use half the dosage.
[Notes] A few diseases, especially roundworm infections, are more serious. Taking medicine can cause the roundworms to migrate, causing abdominal pain or vomiting of the roundworms in the mouth. It may even cause suffocation. In this case, you should seek medical attention immediately. People with liver and kidney dysfunction should use with caution. Except for those with habitual constipation, there is no need to take laxatives. Children must use it under adult supervision. It is contraindicated when the properties of mebendazole chewable tablets change. Please keep this medicine out of reach of children.
