It is understood that polyolefin elastomer (POE) is in the form of white granules. It is a high-performance polyolefin that becomes rubber elastic at room temperature. It has low density and It has the characteristics of narrow molecular weight distribution, large bending, high low-temperature impact resistance, easy processing, low glass catalytic temperature, and reusability. These characteristics make it have good tolerance for inorganic fillers, good resilience and flexibility, and its hardness is very low. It is widely used in the field of modified plastics, mainly used for modified and toughened PP, PE and PA are used in the automotive industry to make bumpers, fenders, steering wheels, pads, etc.
The application and function of polyolefin elastomer (POE) in automobile PP bumpers:
POE has excellent toughening effect on PP, and PP and activated calcium carbonate have good compatibility. This is because POE has a narrow molecular weight distribution and the lateral octyl groups in the molecular structure are longer than the lateral ethyl groups. They can form connecting points in the molecular structure and play a connecting and buffering role between the components, allowing the system to disperse and disperse when impacted. The function of buffering impact energy reduces the chance of silver cracks developing into cracks due to stress, thus improving the impact strength of the system. When the system is subjected to tension, since the network structure formed by these connecting points can undergo large deformation, the elongation at break of the system increases significantly. When the POE content increases, the tensile strength, bending strength and bending strength of the system increase. The strength and flexural modulus have both decreased, which is determined by the properties of POE itself, so the POE content should be controlled below 20%.
It is usually required that the notched impact strength (normal temperature) of PP bumper materials is greater than 500J/m, and the notched impact strength at -40℃ is ≥50J/m. Using PP as the base resin, POE as the toughening agent, and talc as the reinforcing filler, a special material for car bumpers with performance that meets the requirements is produced. The modified PP has ultra-high impact strength, with a notched impact strength as high as 723J/m, and has enhanced softness, excellent heat resistance, low temperature resistance and aging resistance. Using small-bulk polypropylene (PP) as the base material, it is blended and modified with copolymerized propylene (CPP), POE, wollastonite and other additives to produce special materials for bumpers and door panels.
