Methyl stearate is an ester organic compound, also known as methyl octadecanoate. It is a monoalkyl ester formed from long-chain fatty acids. It is a colorless or slightly yellow transparent oily liquid to semi-solid at room temperature, with excellent permeability, thermal stability and antistatic properties. Melting point 37~39℃, density 0.84g/cm3, insoluble in water, soluble in methanol, ethanol, DMSO and other organic solvents.

Methyl stearate is an intermediate for preparing methyl stearate sulfonate (MES) surfactant. MES is an excellent anionic surfactant with excellent foaming properties in cold and warm water. It has good decontamination performance, low toxicity and low irritation, and has excellent washing performance, biodegradability and calcium and magnesium chelating ability.
Pass methyl stearate and catalyst low carbon monohydric alcohol solution (methanol) through the sodium glycinate bed in the packed bed reactor under autoclaved conditions The reaction is carried out to prepare sodium stearoyl amino acid, and the content of sodium stearoyl amino acid in the reaction product is 93.6%. This method has good economy, no corrosion in the process, low pollution, and is environmentally friendly. It is a clean production process that replaces the traditional Shotton-Bowman synthesis method.
