It is understood that triethanolamine is a colorless, transparent and viscous liquid at room temperature. Has a slight ammonia smell. It is hygroscopic and can absorb moisture and carbon dioxide in the air. Can be freely mixed with water and alcohol, soluble in chloroform, slightly soluble in benzene and ether. The pH of 0.1moI/L solution is 10.5. There is a danger of burning when exposed to high heat, open flame or contact with oxidants. Its aqueous solution is corrosive.
The identification method of triethanolamineis as follows:
1. Take 1ml of this product and add 0.3ml of copper sulfate test solution to make it appear blue. Add 2.5 ml of sodium hydroxide test solution and heat to boiling, but the blue color still does not disappear.
2. Take 1ml of this product and add 0.3ml of vaporized cobalt test solution. It should appear dark red.
3. Put 1ml of this product into a test tube and heat it slowly. The gas produced can turn the moist red litmus paper blue.
4. Precisely measure 1ml of the test solution under the relevant substance, place it in a 200ml measuring bottle, add water to dilute to the mark, shake well, and use it as the test solution. Precisely measure (l) 1ml of the reference solution under the relevant substance item, place it in a 200ml measuring bottle, add water to dilute to the mark, shake well, and use it as the reference solution. According to the chromatographic conditions tested under the relevant substances, the retention time of the main peak of the test solution should be consistent with the retention time of the main peak of the triethanolamine reference solution.
