Vaseline is a semi-liquid mixture of alkanes or saturated hydrocarbons , also called petrolatum, is produced by fractionation of petroleum. Its state is between solid and liquid at normal temperature. It has three colors: brown, yellow and white due to different uses.
Vaseline (petroleum jelly) is divided into three categories according to the scope of use, physical and chemical properties and production requirements, using internationally accepted product standards. In China, a national standard for ordinary petroleum jelly has been formulated. They are: medical petroleum jelly (GB1790-86), industrial petroleum jelly (GB6731-86), ordinary petroleum jelly (GB6732-86), and capacitor petroleum jelly (GB6733-86).
Medical Vaseline: It is a uniform, ointment-like substance with a certain degree of stringiness and short stringiness, and has no odor. According to the refining depth, it is divided into medical white petroleum jelly and medical yellow petroleum jelly, respectively. It is white, light yellow to light yellow [7]; suitable for raw materials of medical ointments, creams and skin care ointments; made by mixing paraffin grease and mineral oil or mixing fragrance oil and melted white paraffin or ozokerite , can be used to make medical ointments, emulsions in the textile industry, and can also be used as anti-corrosion grease for measuring instruments and surgical instruments. It can be used as an ointment when highly refined to pharmaceutical grade, and petrolatum jelly used in medicine may be formulated with other substances.
Industrial Vaseline: It is a solid hydrocarbon-based grease used to protect metal products; it can also be used as an anti-friction grease under conditions where the temperature is not higher than 45°C and the load is not large [8]. Suitable for anti-corrosion and anti-friction lubrication of metal objects, metal parts and machinery. Vaseline (petroleum jelly) is used for lubrication and rubber and resin formulations. When used for lubrication, it should only be filtered and refined without being treated with acid, and it should not be mixed with paraffin. Its melting point should be between 46-54°C; O-grade petrolatum used as rubber softener is a light yellow, odorless semi-solid substance with a specific gravity of 0.84 and a melting point of 46-48°C.
Ordinary petroleum jelly: divided into two types: ordinary white petroleum jelly and ordinary yellow petroleum jelly; suitable for lubricating rubber products as softener, glass fiber drawing molding emulsion, etc.;
Yellow petroleum jelly is yellow and uniform Ointment, prepared by mixing fragrance oil with paraffin and ozokerite (yellow); used in veterinary medicine and as a medical substitute for petroleum jelly.
Capacitor Vaseline: a white to light yellow uniform grease; suitable for impregnating capacitor insulation materials and pouring capacitors.
