On June 15, at the 2023 National Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Work Conference and the Fifth Council of the Seventh Session held in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association clarified five development priorities for the nitrogen fertilizer and methanol industries in 2023.
Gu Zongqin, chairman of the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, said that the current international environment is complex and uncertainties are increasing. In order to promote the high-quality development of the industry, we must rationally view market changes and reasonably control new production capacity.
Second, we must adhere to the innovation-driven strategy and continuously enhance the development momentum of the industry. It is necessary to break through a number of major key core technologies that restrict the development of the industry, such as super-large coal gasifiers, waste/semi-waste boiler coal gasifiers, high-efficiency catalysts, and high-efficiency pumps.
Third, we must implement the "double carbon" strategy to promote the green and sustainable development of the industry. In the short term, the industry still needs to focus on energy conservation and carbon reduction; in the medium and long term, the focus is on energy transformation. Recently, many regions are actively promoting wind power, photovoltaic, green hydrogen, green ammonia, and green alcohol project planning. A few leading companies in the nitrogen fertilizer and methanol industry are also trying to integrate new energy with the existing coal chemical industry.
Fourth, we must deepen supply-side structural reforms, strengthen chains and supplement chains. The current nitrogen fertilizer and methanol market is in a downturn, and it is imminent to strengthen the development of new synergistic fertilizers in the nitrogen fertilizer industry. The methanol and synthetic ammonia industry should rely on industrial advantages to develop a carbon-one chemical industry chain, increase the development of high-end products such as new chemical materials and fine chemicals, expand the industrial field, and build a multi-generation chemical industry.
Fifth, we must raise the awareness of prevention and build a solid line of defense in production safety. Nitrogen fertilizer and methanol production enterprises must implement the main responsibility for the investigation and rectification of accident hazards, fully implement various tasks of safety production, and conduct a comprehensive investigation of the production, supporting and auxiliary facilities of the enterprise without leaving any dead ends.
