According to foreign media reports on July 27, the Myanmar Rubber Planters and Producers Association (MRPPA) reported that in the first quarter (April-June) of the 2023/2024 fiscal year, Myanmar rubber exports were about 50,000 tons.
Myanmar has set a target of exporting 300,000 tonnes of rubber to the external market this fiscal year. During the monsoon season, rubber tapping operations are temporarily halted, bringing the rubber business to a standstill. Currently, the price of Mon State smoked sheet rubber (RSS-1) is 1,630 kyats per pound, and the price of RSS-3 rubber is 1,530 kyats per pound. According to traders, rubber prices in Mon State, an important rubber-producing state in Myanmar, are affected by global rubber demand, rubber production in Southeast Asian countries and market supply.
Myanmar produces about 300,000 tons of rubber every year, 70% of which is exported to China. The remainder is shipped to Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea, India, Japan and other countries.
In the fiscal year 2022/2023, Myanmar's rubber production will reach 360,000 tons, of which more than 200,000 tons will be exported.
Rubber in the country is mainly produced in Mon State and Kachin State in Myanmar, as well as the Taninthay, Bago and Yangon regions. As of 2018/2019, Myanmar had more than 1.628 million acres of rubber plantations, of which Mon State accounted for 497,153 acres, followed by Taninthayi Region with 348,344 acres and Kayin State with 270,760 acres. In the 2020/2021 financial year, Myanmar’s rubber export revenue exceeded US$449 million.
