When it comes to green travel, many people think of shared bicycles. According to statistics, nearly 3 million used shared bicycles are produced in China every year. How do these discarded bicycles “turn waste into treasure” and realize recycling?
Scrap bicycle tires are ingeniously “transformed” into environmentally friendly plastic courts
In the Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Qianxinan, Guizhou, a group of newly built rural primary schools “Internet celebrity playgrounds” are particularly eye-catching. The basketball court located in the Central School of Lishuping Village, Nidang Town, Xingyi City has bright colors and novel shapes. During recess activities, the students played and ran on the new court, having a great time.
This basketball court is paved with more than 2,000 processed tires of shared bicycles and motorcycles. Polyurethane produced by bicycle tires can be laid into environmentally friendly plastic courts after being crushed. The indicators of all raw materials meet the standards of “Sports Fields with Synthetic Surfaces for Primary and Secondary Schools”.
Refined dismantling maximizes the value of scrapped bicycles
In fact, scrapped shared bicycles are full of “treasures”. At the scrapped bicycle dismantling base in Neijiang, Sichuan, scrapped bicycles are being transported to the dismantling workshop in an orderly manner, and workers will dismantle the different parts of the bicycles in detail.
The recycling rate of each bicycle is over 99%
The preliminary dismantled bicycles can be divided into four types of waste materials: scrap aluminum, scrap iron, waste plastic, and magnesium and aluminum. Metal materials can be smelted into metal ingots for recycling, and other materials will also be recycled or treated in a harmless manner. After continuous exploration, shared bicycles have achieved a full life cycle management model from production, use, recycling to reuse.
