China s thermal coal imports hit a two-and-a-half-year high in May

The latest data from the General Administration of Customs shows that in May 2022, China imported 31.383 million tons of steam coal (including lignite, bituminous coal and sub-bituminous coal, the same below), a year-on-year increase of 108.11% and a month-on-month increase of 1.3%, a record 1 in 2021. From January to May 2023, China imported a total of 137 million tons of thermal coal, a year-on-year increase of 65.1371 million tons, an increase of 91.24%.

In May 2022, China imported 13.929 million tons of lignite, a year-on-year increase of 39.43% and a month-on-month decrease of 9.52%.

From January to May 2022, China imported a total of 712.15 billion tons of lignite, a year-on-year increase of 29.549 million tons or 70.92%.
