Affected by factors such as temperature and climate changes, crude oil price fluctuations, agricultural production progress, and construction progress in May 2023, coal prices in Inner Mongolia will decrease month-on-month. According to the data from the production materials market monitoring system of the Ministry of Commerce, in May, the average price of coal in Inner Mongolia was 845.88 yuan/ton, a slight decrease from the previous month, and a year-on-year decrease of 6.6%. Among them, the average price of anthracite No. 2 washed lump coal was 886.45 yuan/ton, a month-on-month increase of 5.4%, and a year-on-year decrease of 11.4%. A year-on-year decrease of 3.1%; the average price of one-third of coking coal was 920.61 yuan/ton, a month-on-month decrease of 3% and a year-on-year decrease of 3.3%.
The Department of Commerce of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region stated that in May, the operating rate of coal enterprises has increased, and the market supply capacity has improved. The off-season of seasonal demand leads to a drop in daily consumption of power plants, and weak demand in the downstream market. The overall market is dominated by wait-and-see, transaction activity is sluggish, and some traders and terminal purchases have slowed down, which jointly drove the month-on-month drop in coal prices. It is expected that the coal market will be stable in the near future, and prices will fluctuate.
