According to data from the General Administration of Customs on June 7, China exported 8.356 million tons of steel in May 2023, an increase of 424,000 tons from the previous month, and a month-on-month increase of 5.3%; the cumulative export of steel from January to May was 36.369 million tons, a year-on-year increase 40.9%.
In May, China imported 631,000 tons of steel, an increase of 46,000 tons from the previous month, and a month-on-month increase of 7.9%; the cumulative import of steel from January to May was 3.129 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 37.1%.
In May, China imported 96.175 million tons of iron ore and its concentrate, an increase of 5.733 million tons from the previous month, and a month-on-month increase of 6.3%; the cumulative import of iron ore and its concentrate from January to May was 480.748 million tons, a year-on-year increase 7.7%.
In May, China imported 39.584 million tons of coal and lignite, a decrease of 1.092 million tons from the previous month, and a month-on-month decrease of 2.7%. The cumulative import of coal and lignite from January to May was 182.059 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 89.6%.
