The reporter learned from the Chinese Academy of Engineering that the offshore intermediate test of the in-situ direct electrolysis hydrogen production technology without desalination of seawater jointly carried out by the team of Academician Xie Heping of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and China Dongfang Electric Group Co., Ltd. has recently been successful. This time, the offshore pilot test was carried out at the Xinghua Bay Offshore Wind Farm in Fujian in mid-to-late May.
The Chinese Academy of Engineering specially organized a group of academicians and experts to visit the site and witness the sea trial. The expert group believes that the in-situ direct electrolysis hydrogen production equipment without desalination of seawater is reasonable in design and stable in operation, which verifies the feasibility and practicability of the principle and technology of in-situ direct electrolysis hydrogen production without desalination in seawater originally created by Chinese scientists in real marine environments , and realized the integrated technology system of offshore wind power renewable energy and seawater direct hydrogen production.
Xie Heping, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering: Our project uses marine wind power to directly electrolyze seawater samples to produce hydrogen. This is a disruptive breakthrough. Breaking the traditional concept of hydrogen production from fresh water in the world opens the door to a new world that will change our global energy path.
It is understood that this sea trial uses green power to electrolyze seawater to produce hydrogen, and the key equipment is designed and manufactured by Chinese companies, which will also provide an industrial basis for the subsequent large-scale offshore industrial seawater direct hydrogen production.
