KRAIBURG TPE can now offer the corresponding ISCC PLUS certified (mass balance) thermoplastic elastomer. This improvement is particularly beneficial for customers in the consumer and healthcare sectors, supporting them in the next step in their journey towards a circular economy.
KRAIBURG TPE is now distributing ISCC Selected TPE solutions with PLUS certification. Through mass balance, compliance with various social and ecological standards in favor of processors and end consumers is ensured during an extensive review process. Seamless traceability in the supply chain is guaranteed, including proof of origin of raw materials and materials. This certification is of particular benefit to TPE customers in the highly regulated consumer goods and medical industries, as they do not need to initiate another approval process.
Demand and standards for more sustainable solutions are growing in the plastics industry. Product manufacturing companies have identified various ways to provide customers with products that help expand the circular economy. Especially thermoplastic elastomer compounds containing recycled materials are increasingly being used to meet market demands.
In some areas, however, such adjustments are challenging because the compounds being used are subject to special regulations and legal provisions, for example, the use of recycled materials is not currently permitted. Manufacturers and processors also require extensive testing of certain raw materials before final processing. Therefore, in these cases, the conversion of materials to more sustainable product components cannot be achieved without substantial greater effort and cost. ISCC is a globally applicable, recognized and standardized certification system covering biological, biocircular and circular raw materials. With the help of the mass balance method, it is possible to gradually increase the proportion of more sustainable raw materials. As a result, fossil raw materials are replaced and the CO2 footprint is gradually reduced. This mass balance approach makes it possible to use a mix of renewable and fossil raw materials in the production process. It ensures that sustainable proportions of the mass balance are traceable. Another benefit for customers and processors is that no so-called negative testing is required due to the alternative solution. As customers receive products that are chemically identical to their existing solutions, current processing parameters are also kept unchanged.
