Xia Fuliang, President of Evonik Greater China, said: "China's carbon neutral goal has accelerated the innovation speed of the electric vehicle battery industry. Evonik is focusing on developing next-generation solutions to improve the performance of electric vehicle batteries. At the same time, we cooperate with the local Partners and customers have established cooperative relationships to further tap market potential and follow the general trend of regional development."
Evonik's EV battery solutions on display include:
Improve cell performance, life and production efficiency
AEROXIDE® Alu 130, AEROXIDE® TiO2 P 25: Used for surface coating of positive electrode materials, which can stabilize positive electrode active material particles and avoid cracks during charging and discharging, thereby improving capacity retention and prolonging battery life.
AEROXIDE® Alu 45: used as ultra-thin (≤1 μm), a uniform ceramic coating, or a ceramic filler in the membrane, thereby improving the thermal stability of the battery separator.
TEGO® SURTEN E process additive series is dedicated to improving the production process of lithium batteries to obtain better electrical performance and lower total cost. Evonik's broad surfactant technology platform offers products ranging from wetting and dispersing agents to defoamers and plasticizers.
Optimizing material properties for lightweight battery packs
VESTALITE® S Curing Agents: High performance solutions for sheet molding compound (SMC) materials with low VOC. The curing agent is particularly suitable for high-volume, automated manufacturing of automotive applications such as battery housings.
ANCAMIDE® and ANCAMINE®: High-performance two-component amine curing agents, which can be used in various battery adhesives, providing customers with a variety of options for different performance requirements in the application of new energy battery adhesives.
NOURYBOND® 392: Excellent adhesion promoter, specially designed for the bonding of aluminum alloy substrates in electric vehicle battery packs, and can meet the low temperature baking requirements of 120°C.
Achieving ideal electric vehicle battery thermal management
AEROSIL® and AEROXIDE®: Silicones, adhesives, sealants and thermal insulation materials used in battery packs can significantly improve thermal stability, thermal conductivity and thermal insulation.
Silicone Raw Materials for Filler Treatment: Provides excellent flexibility in build-up formulations to tailor desired viscosity, cure speed, hardness and specialty properties, as well as improve thermal conductivity and flame retardancy.
Evonik is not only a material supplier, but also an innovative partner for the electric vehicle battery industry. In 2022, Evonik's global lithium-ion battery center will be officially put into use in Shanghai. Combining the company's expertise in various fields, the center is committed to developing innovative battery materials with higher energy density, safer performance and longer service life.
Recently, Evonik announced that it will expand its fumed alumina production base in Yokkaichi, Japan, and plans to start construction in the summer of 2023 and put it into operation in 2025. The production site is Evonik's first fumed alumina plant in Asia and produces specialty chemical solutions for lithium-ion battery technology for electric vehicles.
