The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development stated today (May 23) that as my country's waste classification work continues to advance, by the end of this year, the coverage rate of waste classification in urban residential areas at the prefecture level and above will reach more than 90%.
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, 297 cities above the prefecture level have fully implemented domestic waste classification, the average coverage rate of residential quarters has reached 82.5%, the waste classification management system has been continuously improved, and the level of waste resource utilization has been greatly improved , a good atmosphere for everyone to participate in garbage sorting is gradually taking shape. According to the plan, before the end of this year, we will strive to achieve a garbage classification coverage rate of more than 90% in urban residential areas at the prefecture level and above, and basically achieve full coverage by the end of 2025.
This year, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development will start the revision of the "Regulations on Urban Appearance and Environmental Sanitation Management" and "Urban Waste Management Measures" to further refine and improve the legal system of waste classification. At present, 20 provinces and autonomous regions including Fujian, Hebei, and Shandong, and 173 cities including Shanghai and Guangzhou have issued local regulations and government regulations.
