In August 2022, Ningxia Ningdong Taihe New Materials Co., Ltd. announced the public participation information for the environmental impact assessment of the high-performance fiber raw material project.
On October 5, 2022, Ningxia Ningdong Taihe New Material Co., Ltd. announced the design change of the high-performance fiber raw material project of 100,000 tons/year PTMEG and supporting catalyst project.
PTMEG (polytetrahydrofuran/polytetramethylene ether glycol) is the main downstream application of BDO, accounting for about 53% of consumption, and the built-up production capacity is about 850,000 tons. In recent years, China's BDO investment has continued to be hot, benefiting from three major industry directions: biodegradable plastics (PBAT, PBS, PBSA, etc.), new energy industry lithium battery solvents (GBL, NMP, etc.), and PTMEG-spandex industry chain.
PTMEG's consumption fields include spandex, polyurethane elastomer (mainly polyether TPU, etc.) and ester ether copolymer elastomer (TPEE), of which spandex is the largest consumption field accounting for about 95%. Spandex has excellent performance. With the improvement of people's demand for comfort in the field of textile and clothing, the spandex industry will usher in a new round of capacity expansion cycle; and the application of future technical barrier breakthroughs in high-end fields will also become a new growth point for PTMEG.
Based on the good development prospects of the spandex industry and the extension of the large-scale BDO industry chain, the development of new PTMEG projects is booming and presents two major trends, BDO-PTMEG integration and PTMEG-spandex industry agglomeration. In Wuhai City, Inner Mongolia, taking advantage of local resources, BDO has a planned production capacity of nearly 3 million tons, of which 1.44 million tons are supported by PTMEG; The production capacity is nearly 500,000 tons; in Chongqing Changshou Economic and Technological Development Zone, Sinopec Chuanwei Chemical Co., Ltd. has planned and signed a 7.45 billion yuan BDO integration project with an annual output of 300,000 tons, and Zhongrun Chemical’s 2.9 billion NMP new material integration project.
Ningxia Ningdong Taihe New Material Co., Ltd. is located in Ningxia Ningdong Energy and Chemical Industry Base. It was established in December 2017 with a registered capital of 1 billion yuan. The company currently has more than 900 employees. It is mainly engaged in the manufacture and sales of differentiated spandex and chemical fiber products. It has a differentiated spandex technology research and development center and a spandex product performance testing platform. It is the largest high-performance fiber manufacturer in China - Taihe New Materials Group Co., Ltd. (stock code: 002254), is a state-owned holding company.
Ningxia and Yantai are the two major production bases of Taihe New Materials. The Yantai base mainly produces spandex, aramid and aramid paper, and the Ningdong base mainly produces spandex and aramid.
Ningdong Taihe Industrial Park of Ningdong Base in Ningxia: At present, the first and second phases of the Ningdong Taihe new material spandex project have been completed and put into operation, with a production capacity of 85,000 tons. After the completion of the third phase, the production capacity of Ning Dongtai and new material spandex will reach 165,000 tons. The para-aramid fiber project with an annual output of 4,500 tons started construction in August 2018, and the scale of a single device is the largest in China. The products cover high model para-aramid, standard para-aramid and other product types.
In addition, Taihe New Material has a production capacity of 3,200 tons/year of aramid fiber deep-processing products in Ningxia. In March 2022, Taihe New Materials' 12,000 tons/year protective para-aramid project started in Ningxia. The project is planned to be completed and put into operation in the first half of 2024. By then, the Ningdong base will become the world's largest aramid production base.
